Thursday, the leg pain became unbearable again, so I took the Zofran, and after an hour, took half a percocet. I was in bed, and wasn't feeling much relief from that half, so about an hour later I took the second half. I went to sleep.
Got up this morning and felt so nauseated I took another Zofran. But the pain in my leg was still hideous, so after an hour, I took a Vicodin. Why is it that these darned narcotics are only useful for making me sick?
How in the heck, WHY in the heck does anyone take this crap for recreational use? How can they do it? Maybe I'm the only one that gets sick from these things? I only worked an hour this morning before the nausea and pain put an end to that. Bummer.
But on a very happy note, Wendy and Dean are flying in even as I type, and I'm so excited! Now, I had better go find something to eat since I have four Xeloda pills to get down... oh joy. :)
Happy almost Winter to all!

Cold... COLD!
I am SUCH a wimp when it comes to cold. And tonight's low should be around 32. My sisters went through the farmland wrapping up the produce. I would hate to see my artichokes freeze to death before I could even eat one. :) And I really, really want that red cabbage to survive!
Tomorrow I have a meeting and I want to be there in person, so I am going to head in to the plant, and then have lunch with my friend Annette at the cafeteria. You know, I couldn't do this without my trusty scooter. Mine is an older version than the one pictured, but you get the idea. The battery weighs more than any other part of the vehicle. Thank goodness I have that lift on the back of the Equinox.. oh and thank you, too, General Motors!
Today was wonderful, despite the cold. I got quite a bit accomplished at work, and it's SO good to be stretching those little grey cells, as Poirot would call them. It just felt so GOOD to interact with people in a way that not only challenges my brain, but delights my gregarious nature.
On the Cancer front, tomorrow morning is this round's last bunch of Xeloda, but not the last bunch forever. My hands are happy, though, that they get a break for a week. I'm going broke on hand lotion. :D
I almost forgot my Arixtra shot again, so I put a reminder on my calendar at work. Shoot up at 1PM. :) That might raise a few eyebrows. Hehehe.
Does the weather have anything to do with the pain in my leg? Yes, I had it in the summer, but I wonder if the cold weather exacerbates it. I go to bed with a heating pad on it, but tonight I just might have to hit the Vicodin. I can do it, if I sleep after I take it. And just one doesn't seem to make me barf, but any more than that and it's good-bye to my stomach contents.
Yes, I am so happy to be working again. I have this silly smile plastered to my face, even when it hurts to get up from a sit, I'm still happy. I may grimace, but the smile comes right back.
Take care, everyone... keep warm, and be safe!

Sleeping A Lot
Vicodin makes me sleepy so if I take one, I have to sleep at least two hours. I took my last Vicodin yesterday. I started to get nauseated and decided I'd rather have pain than nausea.
But even so, I'm still sleeping quite a bit. Maybe my body just needs some rest. Must listen to the body. ;)
Tomorrow I go to Sonora to get my PT/INR tested again. I'm at 2.5 mg of Coumadin at the moment. I wish it would hurry up and get rid of that damned clot in my thigh so I could walk again. I should stop the whining, I know, but it hurts.
So anywho, that's why I'm not posting so much; I'm too busy sleeping. But I think I detect a lessening of the pain, so maybe the coumadin is working and I just need to be patient. HAHAHAH, yeah, that's me, patient. ;)
Love to all!

Pain Continues
The pain from the DVT in my left thigh is not being managed very well. That's my fault, of course, as I hate painkillers, and I've waited far too long to start taking them with regularity.
But some time after 2 AM, when I discovered I could not get out of bed, it seemed time to just take the creepy Vicodin. I have to say, though, it's not really getting rid of the pain. I think it's lessening it a bit, but um, it still hurts.
I took the pre-emptive dose of compazine, an anti-nausea drug, after I got home from my Friday blood-letting. I waited about 1/2 hour and then took the Vicodin. And then I fell asleep. Essentially, every time I take a Vicodin, I fall asleep, so maybe that's what I have to do; sleep through the pain.
Anyway, I'm trying to take the Vicodin now on a continual basis without barfing my guts out. Which reminds me, it's time for another compazine. When Dr. Ramaswamy calls about today's PTR, I shall tell him about the level of pain, etc. Maybe I need something stronger than Vicodin... oh yuck.
Well, have a great weekend, all.

Blech....
The good news is that I am off the heparin drip and just on coumadin. That means, if all goes well, I will go HOME TOMORROW!
This morning, though, I had mutated into Zombie Tequila. Vicodin and I just don't mix, apparently. And the puking began. And more drugs were given (Phenergan.) And the Zombie Tequila emerged.
But, it's three PM, now, and Human Tequila is almost back. Thankfully, the nurses tell me, I didn't manage to eat any brains. I didn't eat anything. Which was a bummer because I had had a nice breakfast ordered. Alas.
Visitors are here so I shall close this post. Love to all!

And I Give In
I asked for pain meds. My left leg, in which I have Deep Vein Thrombosis, hurts SO much, I can barely move, and it almost reduced me to tears. So Dr. Ramaswamy ordered some Vicodin, but he says I have to get some anti-nausea meds on board first. I've had one tablet so far, but I am going to bite the bullet and ask for another.
Oh, and it turned out that the creepy alarm that went off this morning was actually a fire drill. Still not terribly reassuring that we patients get shut up in our rooms while the staff evacuates. But, then again, I couldn't walk, so... :)
Anyway, Dr. R says that if we can get the pain under control, MAYBE I can go home tomorrow. Otherwise,we'll shoot for Thursday. Good gods, that would make a week in the Big House! Well, whatever....I just want to be safe and well.

A Good Dentist is a Joy Forever
Dr. Robert Baker is my dentist and he got me all fixed up today. We talked about a lot of things; he's just the best. Unfortunately, I cried a little as we were talking about my prognosis, but he got me laughing again pretty quickly.
I only cried because I'm getting a little tired of pain. It wears you down, you know, and makes it hard to be your normally happy self. But I came home, took a Naprosyn and felt better. It doesn't take away all the pain, but it makes it manageable. I just don't want to vomit and I don't want to keep taking the compazine, either. The vicodin makes me sick. I've always had a very low tolerance for pain killers.
I'll discuss all this with Dr. Fastenberg on Tuesday when I see him before the next infusion. The major pain is still in my left leg. It feels muscular to me, but I don't know. I had the sonogram on both of my legs to check for blood clots and everything was fine. And my left leg doesn't LOOK any different than my right leg, which is a good sign, I think.
Tonight, though, I will probably take a vicodin before I try to sleep.
Other than that, I broke down and got a game from Amazon even if it is from those evil cads at Electronic Arts. It's called Darkspore and so far, it's not bad. Kind of a dungeon crawler in space. But you know me, it needs more phat lewtz. ;) I do like the ability to change your 'hero' in mid battle. I just wish EA would stop making you go ONLINE when all you are doing is playing a freaking single-player game. They treat their customers like we're all thieves.
Anywho, thought I'd best post as it had been a couple of days, and people worry when I don't post. Oh, and speaking of posts, over the weekend I wrote my last blog post, with instructions for my sisters on how to access my blog and copy and paste it in.
It's unsettling when you find a blog you are drawn to, especially the ones written by people with a chronic disease, and it just stops. No more posts. You don't know if they have gotten so well, that their exciting life has given them no time to post, or if something more final has happened. It's sad, too.
So, I didn't want anyone to come upon this blog someday, and have to wonder what ever happened to Tequila and her journey through cancer. I think it's a good final post, if I do say so myself; upbeat, not maudlin, or scary, just factual and happy. :)
You know, I love every single day I get, even the ones with pain, because I get to be with people I love, chihuahuas I adore, and I get to let people know that just because you've got an expiration date on you, it's no reason to stop living and having fun.
Live long and prosper. :D

Ocular Migraine
Early this morning, we had word that my brother is in hospital in California, after experiencing a heart attack. Our SIL assured us that the docs say he'll be fine. Ai chihuahua, we're all falling apart!
I got busy with my numbers and pretty pictures at work, but... wait... what? Oh no! I thought I was LONG past having another of them. It was the dreaded ocular migraine. I like to call it having a glowing aztec print utterly consume your vision. The first time it happened to me was in 2001, and I was terrified. Sister took me to urgent care, and while we were waiting in line to sign in, it went away. I quickly urged her to take me back home, then called my regular doc who talked to a neurologist friend who clued me in as to what it was. It's not a problem, really, you just have to wait for it to pass. Be quiet, be calm, and it'll run its course. Luckily, I get the type that makes you go blind, but not the type that hurts like hades. :) Today's lasted just over fifteen minutes.
There are many contributing factors to why one gets these: stress (HAHAHAHA), not enough sleep to rest the eyes (Check!), and medications (ding ding ding!) I told my sister that my medicine area in my bedroom was starting to look like the one kept padlocked in "Sweet November." I thought that particular example was such overkill, but now, I'm not so sure. :P
For instance, I get chemo. I take Neulasta to help get me through chemo. Then I take Vicodin to get me through Neulasta, and Compazine to get me through the Vicodin. Better living through Chemistry? Gods, I hope so. Otherwise, this is all a sham and the pharmaceutical companies are the epitome of evil on earth.... hmmmm.
Still, I have crossed two of those, Vicodin and Compazine, off the list for this round of chemo, as of today. I've still got a bit a pain in my ankles and feet, but it's just normal achiness now, and besides, I wanted a glass of WINE! I deserve a glass of wine! Just don't tell my doc how big this glass is... <wink, wink>. And I am just kidding... mostly.
So, have sweet dreams, all. Kiss your dogs, cats, husbands, wives, gerbils, llamas, or whatever needs kissing (keep it legal!), and I'll see you back here tomorrow. :)

Vicodin, Praise the Gods
I SLEPT! From around 8:30PM to 3:30AM. I SLEPT!
Because I have this weird fear of painkillers (Remember the Queen of Neuroses doesn't have to be logical), I had to force myself to take HALF a Vicodin before I tried to get to sleep. After about a half an hour, when I didn't feel horrible, I took the second half, and that calmed the bone pain enough to get me to where I could fall asleep. Sadly, it didn't get rid of it all. And now what's with this weird twitching? My legs now have a mind of their own, and start dancing around to their own beat, painful though it is. I don't know if this is part of the Neulasta or something from the chemo. I don't remember it from last time, but then again, last time wasn't this mega dose, either.
On to happier subjects: We have about six serrano chilies ready to be harvested. The squashes are just now budding, there is a second tomato on one of the other plants, and the spinach and collard greens are on steroids, apparently. It's a good life, being a farmer. :D Of course, you know I'm doing nothing towards the care of the 'farmland.' That's been all Jane and Cathy. I hope you can actually SEE the serrano in the picture above.
Anyway, today, I'm actually feeling a bit more human; haven't let out a single whimper. :) Must go find some breakfast. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone!
