I see another poor soul has this nasty cancer. I know the name Harmon Killebrew, but not really sure of who he is except that he's a hall of fame baseball player.
Occasionally, I come across a story of someone that's actually survived Esophageal Cancer. Here is the story of Rose Marie Jauregui. And what a way to get diagnosed!
Yes, most of the things I read are pretty horrendous, but you have to know what's going on out there; what kinds of treatment are being used, etc. Sadly, I read more about people dying of the disease than being cured.
And then there are stories that make you simply hate cancer and thank your lucky stars that you have had 52 years under your belt. This story about Jessica Shepherd will raise your ire if nothing else does. We need to figure out better ways to find this disease BEFORE we're incurable or inoperable.
I'm not sure why I looked up news items about Esophageal Cancer today, but I was feeling pretty well, and didn't want to be lulled into a false sense of security. Yes, today, I feel good. It's not that I want to be negative; I just need to be realistic. And even stories like Jessica's make me appreciate how lucky I have been. Life is so precious, and we must never forget that. NEVER take a day for granted.

Oh My Good God Almighty, that story is horrendous. How do young people get cancer??????? Beats the hell outta me. I know I read somewhere that it takes 5 years of growth before it shows up and starts causing problems, if it is not found sooner that is.
ReplyDeleteThat story just made me weep. To think she has insurance after fighting for her country and will still have medical bills is just downright offensive to my sensibilities.
I hate this disease, it terrifies me. It just seems like less and less people are surviving it. I seem to read about more and more people in their 50s/60s dying from it and wonder what the hell is going on with the medical profession that they cannot get a handle on it.
The drug Avastin (I think that is what it is called) has just recently been recalled for women with breast cancer. The first thing I heard about this drug was that it was making amazing strides in fighting breast cancer. Great I thought, at last. Then the next thing I heard was that it was being stopped because it was so expensive. Then I heard that it was a nasty drug that was causing all sorts of problems, but the funny thing was that it was helping all sorts of other cancers, mainly prostate cancer. I am not sure what to think now, so many different things written about it. If it has been recalled because of price, then I sincerely hope that the people who did this stand before God someday and have to answer for what they did. I am inclined to think that cost was the main factor. Can you say "Death Panel". Yes I am a conspiracy theorist. I could write so much more but one never knows who is looking at this blog so I shall say no more for now.
